Evangelina Reyes
She graduated with honors from the Faculty of Music of the University of Veracruz. Ganadora de "Myrna Brown International Scholarship 2022 de la National Flute Asociation in USA.
She was awarded with the Myrna Brown International Scholarship of the National Flute Association of the United States of America in January 2022, award granted to only one flutist from the entire world in consideration to the professional achievements of the performer and the actions taken to promote the musical cultural heritage of her birth country.
Since 2001, she has been the Principal Flutist of Mexico’s National Symphony Orchestra (OSN), and has performed as a soloist several times with this orchestra. She has been the principal flutist and soloist of several national orchestras since 1995.
She won the Fulbright Scholarship to pursue her Master's degree at Duquesne University and studied flute lessons at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania with Alberto Almarza.
She has been awarded first place in several competitions, including the National Young Flute Players Competition, the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra Soloists Competition, and the 2013 National Flute Association Convention Performers Competition in New Orleans, where she received great critical acclaim for her performance. She also participated in the National Flute Association in Chicago (2015), Washington DC (2017) and Minneapolis (2018).
She was invited to the International Convention of the National Association of Flautists of Spain which took place in Valencia in 2018, the International Flautist Festival in Peru, and the “Flautas del Mundo” Festival in Argentina.
She has been a FONCA and a Fulbright fellow on several occasions
She is the main promoter worldwide of Mexican music for flute and has where she has presented that repertoire throughout Mexico, as well as in Japan, the United States, Central and South America.
She has recorded four albums with a compilation of Mexican music for flute and piano (Urtext label). Her albums have had international success and, for this reason, she has been invited to represent Mexico in the most important Flute Festivals in Spain, Argentina, Peru and the United States. Several important composers in Mexico have dedicated flute concertos to her.
She is currently working on a project to compile a catalog of all Mexican music for her instrument together with flutists from 8 Latin American countries, in order to promote the entire Latin American flute repertoire internationally online.
The 4th and 5th albums of Mexican music for flute and guitar will be released in 2023, corresponding to the series “INVOCATIONS of Mexican music of the XX and XXI centuries”. She has also recorded with her wind quintet "Cameristas de México" for the Quindecim label.
was born in Mexico City, grew up in Xalapa, Veracruz, and graduated with honors from the School of Music at the Universidad Veracruzana. Her teachers were Claire Scandrett, Cesar Velazquez, Natalia Valderrama, Cecilia Valdez, and Sabina Lauraint. She also studied with Alberto Almarza at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She has participated in the masterclasses of Alain Marion, Alexa Still, and Paul Davies, and had additional private study with Bradley Garner, Phillipe Boucley, Andres Adorjan, and Aldo Baerten.
She was the first prize winner of the 2000 National Competition of Young Flutists, as well as the winner of the first Solo Competition of the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra.
Ms. Reyes Lopez is currently Principal Flute of the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, a position she has held since 2001. She previously had been the principal in the Youth Orchestra of the State of Veracruz, the State of Hidalgo Symphony, the Sinfónica Carlos Chavez, and the Durango Philharmonic “Ricardo Castro”. She has appeared as soloist with all of these orchestras, as well as with the Xalapa Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of the UNAM-ENP, Chihuahua Orchestra, NAtional Symphony in Perú, Monterrey Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Bellas Artes, and morein her country.
On two occasions, she was awarded performance scholarships by the National Endowment for Culture and Art (FONCA) and by the Mexico City government. She was a Fulbright scholar in 2001. In 2005, she entered a proposal for the creation of an interdisciplinary project, Musical Stories for Children, which was accepted and supported by the National Council for Culture and Art, and by the “México en Escena” program.
Her repertoire encompasses much of the Mexican and Latin American music that has been composed for solo flute and for flute and piano. She has included this music in her concert engagements in Japan and the United States. In 1993, she was featured in the Europalia Festival, with concerts in the Belgian cities of Brussels, Binche, Dinant, Liege, Luxemburg, and Hainaut. i In 2013 She won The National Flute Association Convention (NFA) Performers Competition in New Orleans. After that the NFA invited her each year to play with latin or mexican Music as NFA Chicago 2014, NFA Whashington 2015 and NFA Minneapolis 2017. She was sopported by the goverment to buy three CD with an excelente recopilation of Mexican Music for Flute and Piano for he Urtext Label with his "México con Brío " for flute an d piano. She also has recorded the music of Martinu with the Chamber Soloists of Mexico for the Quindecim label.
She gave masterclsses in many countries as Argentina Mendoza, Salvador, Nicaragua, Perú and for all the mexican Republic in important Flute Festival around the world. This Year She will play a latinoamerican program in the 5 Convencion de la Asociación de Flautistas de España en Valencia.
She has been professor of flute at the Music School of the Universidad Veracruzana, the Instituto Superior de Música de la Secretaría de Educación y Cultura de Veracruz (of which she is also a founder), the Mexican State Conservatorio de Música, and the Escuela de Perfeccionamiento Musical at Ollin Yoliztli, in Mexico City. She has also taught at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, the Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, and in various schools in the state of Oaxaca.
